3D Printing

I heard a little about 3D printing but I did not know much. I never thought about how it could be used for education, but it provides a face-to-face interaction with many things. Students who learn better through touching something and seeing something with their own eyes, will really benefit from this tool.

After reading articles and working through the sites provided by Dr. Wu I started thinking, what if we could use 3D printing to learn about anatomy of frogs or pigs without really dissecting them? Almost a reverse game of 'Operation,' instead of removing things from a person, frog, or pig, the students can place the heart, lungs, etc. in the object, in the correct spot.

I also like how 3D printing can be used for medical purposes, that was shocking to me. I hope I will have more understanding on how this works, when I see and feel what a 3D print looks and feels like. I have never used a 3D printer, or seen one, and I have never felt an object that has been printed.

  1. good inquiry about anatomy of animals without dissecting them--well, you can use it if you don't want the "bloody" scene?ha! 3-D technology has also become a dominant presence in many classrooms. I think that this is helpful to the teachers and students both if they have access to the equipment. Teachers can use the printer to create hands-on lessons or even tools to help their students learn. One of the great things about this technology is that it can be used in all subjects whether it is math, art, or reading. On the other hand, students are exposed to other ways of learning and new experiences. They learn through the hands-on activities provided by their teachers, but if they are allowed the chance to use the printer, then their minds will grow even more!
